I build and operate the platforms and data infrastructure that stay boring under load: distributed systems, GitOps, and the unglamorous plumbing that keeps production quiet.
I coalesce the vapor of distributed systems, the mist of user interfaces, the fog of data engineering, the cloud of deployment protocols, and the artificial sentience of machine learning into a singular, marginally functional application.
I'm a software engineer who works end to end, from product architecture and backend services to data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and the frontend on top. Over a decade in, I've shipped across the whole delivery lifecycle: design, implementation, code review, CI/CD, and release and process management.
I move between layers without friction. One week it's a federated GraphQL platform or an event-driven data pipeline, the next it's Kubernetes and GitOps, CDN edge logic, or a React frontend. I treat whatever I build as a product: reliable, cost-aware, and pleasant for the people who depend on it. I lean on AI-assisted tooling to move faster, while verifying, critiquing, and refining every output before it reaches production.

Drive the multi-year migration of NYT's Tier-0 federated GraphQL API (20+ subgraphs over 50+ upstream services powering every client for 12M+ subscribers) from a Scala monolith to Apollo Federation 2 / Apollo Router, serving ~35k requests/second at the CDN edge. Designed a Vault-based service-identity auth system, built an ephemeral environments platform, and run the ArgoCD GitOps workflow. On-call for Tier-0.
Build and operate real-time and batch data pipelines processing billions of events a day. Wrote Go microservices handling ~200M events/hour per region on Kinesis, then drove the platform migration to Databricks and Apache Spark (PySpark), scaling to ~1.8B events/hour. Contributed to PII tokenization and multi-region expansion across EMEA, APAC, and LATAM.
Own backend and infrastructure architecture for a wellness platform that turns wearable data into personalized guidance. Manage 100% of the AWS infrastructure and Cloudflare DNS/WAF as code with Terraform (EKS with Karpenter, KEDA, and ArgoCD), plus an event-driven Kafka (MSK) backbone, an InfluxDB time-series model, and full-stack observability with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Tempo.
Built and maintained messaging features (sending and receiving email, custom SMTP configuration) and worked on guest/public user experiences across the product.
Architected and implemented Go microservices for new products (car wash, battery and tyre change) alongside the core fuel-delivery service, integrating shared auth and payments on AWS.
Architected microservices in Ruby (Rails & Sinatra) and Elixir (Phoenix), rewriting Ruby services into Elixir to handle growing traffic. Helped migrate from EC2 to Dockerized apps on Kubernetes, and built React/Redux frontends with zero-downtime CI/CD.
Maintained backend APIs in Ruby/Rails and Node.js with Angular frontends, and built real-time microservices with Node.js, Socket.io, and Redis to extend the main apps.

Started as a university project, later commercialized into a B2B LMS for the Egyptian education market. Built the platform's infrastructure from the ground up: a self-managed ArgoCD GitOps setup and a Cloudflare Zero Trust layer giving the team simple, secure, cost-free access to internal tooling.
